I look forward to helping you with your fitness goals. You're almost done, but there are a couple of final points. Some of this has been alluded to in previous emails, in any case, it bears repeating.

Leftfield is a response to what I see as a profoundly flawed mainstream approach to fitness and nutrition. There are problems from both industry and consumer sides of the equation. However, the issues from the consumer side invariably stem from and are perpetuated by, the respective industries themselves. Without getting into too much of a rant, unfortunately, some problems can signal the end before the beginning, and what follows serves to ensure we are on the same page.

None of this is made in judgement or as a commentary on you, nor am not suggesting any of it applies specifically to you; for some this is merely stating the obvious. However these are issues that have proven to be all too common, so I feel it's important to be upfront in addressing them to ensure any further level of commitment and investment is not made in error.

Ready?

I am not here to 'save the day'.  I am your partner and am pursuing your goal with you, not for you. Your progress is self-determined, and it is purely convention that has me referring to clients as 'clients'.  The words client, or customer, both imply that there is either a fitness or nutrition problem that can be solved by me. They can't. I will not solve anything, but I will show you a number of ways in which you might do this for yourself. I acknowledge the barriers we all face to physical activity and eating well, but I cannot work harder than you for your goals and overall health.

Of course, the nature and scale of fitness and nutrition goals are also individual; climbing Everest or running 20ks, neither is 'better' than the other. Your goals are exactly that, yours.  My role is to align your intentions and behaviour. At Leftfield Training, you are a student. Not a student of Leftfield, but a student of you. This is a shift away from the idea of 'working out' and towards building a practice, and it's called that for a reason - you learn through trial and (managed) error.

Furthermore, I don’t just issue instructions. You can get advice from anywhere, but my role as a coach is to help you take what you need and then incorporate it into your life. My aim with Leftfield is for you to take full responsibility for your fitness and nutrition, as such I demand your input.

'Because you told me to', is never the correct answer for why you might be doing something.  You can be confident that everything you do is well founded on science, not marketing, not opinion, not dogma. But understanding and awareness will enable you to choose your own adventure - to apply your interpretation to these principles; to move them from theories and concepts, into your life.

One final point, unfortunately, added by necessity. I will not endorse or support any attempted rapid weight loss at the expense of good health and common sense.

Finally, having said all that, please don't mistakenly assume that Leftfield is some militant philosophy, or even remotely extreme. I do not think fitness or nutrition should come at the expense of otherwise living life - it has its place, and that's it. I am as vehemently against the 'eating kale for every meal' brigade, as I would be those making the same claim for donuts.

Leftfield is 'left-field' primarily in that this middle-ground, common-sense approach is curiously absent from the mainstream.

I am happy to discuss any of this further with you if you wish, but if I can assume that it's all clear, thank you for choosing me as your trainer. I will always take the time to listen to your concerns and address your particular needs. Don't hesitate to let me know any way in which I can help further.

See you at the park!

 INJURY POLICY

In the event of injury and/or pain, you will be required to seek appropriate medical advice. In the event that a medical professional rules out all training, your payments may be suspended for this time with any suspended weeks subsequently added to the end of your contract period.

In light of this, however, keep in mind that cross-education (also known as cross-transfer) is a process whereby the healing and rehabilitation of an injury is enhanced by your continuing to train around it - and specifically the opposite limb. In addition to aiding the healing process, this also maintains the training effect, and, more importantly, the habit of exercise.

To be crystal clear, I am not suggesting, nor would I allow, you to train in spite of medical advice to the contrary. But if you can train, even on one leg, do so. Unfortunately, the prevailing 'rest and recover' strategy is yet one more myth that persists in the face of well-established and documented science. I am happy to point you to further articles or the evidence detailing this process if interested.

TRAINING CALENDAR

Please download and print a copy of the Leftfield Training calendar. Don’t worry, it just shows all training blocks, breaks and public holidays, not me in my undies.

BILLING

Exercise is simply a stimulus acting on body and mind to elicit change, as such it has a minimum effective dose. I see it as professionally irresponsible to endorse anything less, so I don't.

At Leftfield, there is a three-session per week minimum. The pricing reflects both this and the most essential truth of diet and exercise in rewarding consistency and commitment. If you are unable to attend 3 sessions you will be provided with the corresponding program of 1 or 2 sessions/week for you to complete in your own time.

Please select a payment option and complete the billing agreement below - no credit card required. Unless you are renewing or amending an existing agreement - once this form is submitted you will be then be sent a debit schedule to confirm and complete.

DON’T PANIC

While I can almost guarantee much of Leftfield Training will be quite different to what you expect - if it isn’t already - this is only ever to further align ourselves with the principles that govern our body and mind. Ultimately these principles will prove themselves but I realise that, at this stage, your decision is largely a leap of faith. Leftfield Training represents a significant investment of both your time and money so I further insist you are more than satisfied with your investment.
