It is rare in the modern-day for people to enjoy any ease of body and mind. This is in part due to modern life, but just as much for a mistaken, and backwards, approach to all things fitness.
Leftfield Training guides you to achieve and sustain a high level of fitness by simple alignment with the physiological principles that govern your body and mind.
Already you're at a Leftfield advantage - because you are accurately describing the problem. Much of health and fitness is purposed towards disguising or talking around the problem meaning that proposed solutions are anything but. Mistaken, but pervasive ideas like 'no pain no gain' define the fitness space but the truth is your progress can be just as invisible, just as innocuous, as going the other way. The countless variables that make each of us unique individuals remain predicated on series of physiological rules. By targeting the relevant area and then tuning it to the individual, Leftfield Training cannot fail to unlock your success.
It's no exaggeration for people to discover it was harder work being unfit.
The search for fitness and/or dietary guidance is a search for results. While that’s understandable, at Leftfield we recognise that while our input to our health and fitness can be positive or negative, it is never zero. This means it's more accurate, more useful, and more likely to lead to the desired outcome if you further understand that you have had, can have, no lack of results. Your body is perpetually adapting and everything you do, or don’t do - regardlessof whether you value it or not - produces a result, an outcome in your body and mind. You only ever reflect the sum total of your dietary, exercise and broader lifestyle habits.
You are a result.
Can you think of a single animal that isn't fit for purpose? We are no exception. Like any organism, you want to be fit. And you're designed to be. When you align with the physiological principles that govern your body and mind, you can't NOT be. This holistic approach is nothing more than an acknowledgement of reality and frees us from the too-common fitness and dietary fate of addressing one problem while creating another. Our definition of fitness is expanded beyond physical competence all to be all-encompassing - exercise, diet, and broader lifestyle factors - as specific to you.
Not because that's how we work, but because that's how you work.
A counterpoint to the nonsense that is mainstream fitness, this is a strictly common-sense philosophy. Further shunning the blinkered focus on the short-term, Leftfield Training is the development, and maintenance of your ongoing, ever-evolving fitness practice. A practice that will continue to serve your physical and psychological wellbeing throughout your life, while never dominating it. A process of realising generic, universal, inescapable truths, and then learning how to best reconcile them within your unique lifestyle. Learning the principles that govern your body and mind and applying them as you see fit within the context of your life. It is fitness as it should be.
It is fitness, once. And for all.
“What I love about Leftfield is that – unlike with a gym – you’re never alone, there’s always someone to guide you and it gets better over time. You get better over time.
What Oli gives you is a philosophy based in reality. You’re not always going to be motivated, you’re not always going to be excited about exercise and sometimes you want a doughnut. What he gives you are tools to help you find your personal goals and to start building the habits that lead to positive changes in your fitness, the way you eat and the way you think. Habits that stick.
We’re always learning something new, which keeps it interesting and keeps it challenging. This programme has busted a few myths for me and given me a better understanding of how to live healthily. I’ve achieved some lifelong fitness goals and now aiming for some more. ”
“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story “This is a great way to undertake nutrition and fitness change: totally doable day-to-day, focusing on graduated, continuous effort rather than all-out change that can’t be sustained long term.””
“I really feel comfortable in the group and that was important to me. You want to train with genuine, down to earth people who are not judging your abilities. I was definitely nervous about this factor and I wasn’t 100% sure if the group would be far more advanced than myself. I think it is a bonus you can mix and match your session days. Sometimes with busy work schedules, I find this fabulous. I feel you have a focus on the connection of mind and body. 18 months ago, if I read this on your website I wouldn’t have cared or connected to this whatsoever, but there is a definite link to feeling good, thinking positively, really treating yourself right, not just exercising but eating right too.”
LEFTFIELD TRAINING was founded by Oli Murdoch in 2010, who thinks that continuing to refer to himself in the third person is pretentious.
I enjoy guiding people to the realisation that fitness is a natural extension of an increased awareness of, and connection to our bodies. An outcome that more mainstream practices make increasingly difficult.
My key role is to guide people to the understanding that they can do all of it themselves, that they don't need anything. A personal trainer in their usual guise of rep counter, cheerleader or gatekeeper, is not only pointless but more of a hindrance in helping people develop a lifestyle of health and fitness.
I came to the fitness world via a life-changing injury and my subsequent search for treatment for chronic pain. I specialise in callisthenics (bodyweight exercise), corrective exercise, kettlebells, nutrition coaching and the keystone to all of it, behaviour change.
I see fitness as being a pre-requisite for any quality of life but, equally so, purposed towards living. As such it need never dominate and I have wide-ranging interests including acting, writing, martial-arts, cooking, and reading. I also make a mean sweet-spiced almond. I am a self-declared expert in none of them. Maybe in reading. Okay, and spiced almonds
A BETTER NEXT STEP
This is where you would typically find a best next step solution to your problem for the small price of your email address. That’s not an option here. And another Leftfield departure from the mainstream. I don’t pretend to offer solutions without first defining the problem. And much of the frustration and failure in this domain can be traced back to confusion on exactly this point.
Furthermore, Leftfield Training is just a framework with the 'next thing' always being determined by the clients unique combination of variables, so this is a much better next step because it’s specific to you.

Being that persuasion is conceivably the worst footing on which to begin any coaching relationship I much prefer to just let you see this process in action in your life, in your own time. The principles prove themselves, that’s what principles do.
You are then free to apply the information given (or not), see what happens, be suitably amazed, and then enrol. At your discretion.
I look forward to chatting with you.
